Aflatoxins are toxic and carcinogenic compounds that can affect the immune system of animals and can reduce health, growth, and fertility.

Aflatoxins are secondary metabolites produced by Aspergillus flavus and can be present in different foods, mainly cereals and oilseed crops.

The level of contamination depends on the type of food, the climate, the harvest season and the storage conditions. Aluminosilicates are known aflatoxin adsorbents and can be added as guaranty to animal feeds to control aflatoxin contamination.

Aluminosilicates are the preferred adsorbents for mycotoxins. Aflatoxins are known contaminants in dairy cow feed, such as corn.
